I think this bird is one of my top 5 favourite species, along with the Snowy Owl, Black-capped Chickadee, Cardinal and Snow Bunting. Competition with Starlings for nest holes has greatly reduced their numbers. Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Florida.

We happened to be in Jonathan Dickinson State Park on Audubon Christmas count day, but couldn't participate due to time. However a kind observer gave us directions on where to go to see this bird. They sometimes stay quiet low in the bushes, but then can also make loud series of calls. A unexpected 'lifer' for me.
