Pipeline Rd, Gamboa, Panama

We did our birders pilgrimage down Pipeline Road. Half way through we came across an army ant colony on the move and their path was to the edge of our road. A number of birds were in attendance. The Bicoloured Antbirds were the most numerous. At the time I was not the owner of a Betterbeamer, so photography was difficult in the understory gloom.

Continuing from previous photo, despite never having seen one before, it was immediately obvious what was in front of me.

I was trying to improve my position to shot a Caracara on a roof, when something caught my eye in front of me. Less than 15 feet away was this meadowlark in the grass. The irony is that I have never seen one in Canada.

From the colour in flight, I thought I had seen a pigeon fly into a distant dark tree. I took a few photos as I approached and the bird flew off before I could get a good look. It was only when I got home that I found out I had done better.

The grounds of the Hotel Gamboa was one of the hottest birding spots around. Rivaling the famous "Pipeline Road". Taken some 30 steps out of the lobby at the edge of the parking lot.

Walking from the hotel De Camaron, I saw at the edge of my vision a Grackle chasing another bird. It ended abruptly in a small flowering shrub. I saw nothing until I approached tripod on the ready. At 15m I could make out the parrot.
Because of the circumstances it is one of my favourite shots.

Guadalhorce delta, Malaga, Spain

The Guadalhorce delta marsh was one of our favourite sites. It was being set up for birdwatching.
From a blind I could make out the Ibis on the far bank of an island behind some trees. He started to walk. Luckily he passed some open ground for a few seconds.

The marsh only opened after 4:30 so the light is low(volunteer workers after work). While looking out of the blind over the marsh, one of us spotted the Wagtail under our noses. I could hardly get the camera down low enough.
