Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

Seen at Elgin, Quebec while looking unsuccessfully for the Grasshopper Sparrows. A kind Mrs. Chodat allowed access to her fields and held off cutting them until she was sure no Grasshopper Sparrows would be harmed.

You just never know what might happen when you look out the window at your bird feeder. One of the most splendid plumages in North America is that of the Northern "Red-shafted" Flicker, seen here in heavy rain at Vancouver, Canada.

Under dark rainy conditions, this Golden-crowned Sparrow surprised everyone in the backyard in West Vancouver BC. A lifer for me.

In about 25 years of birding at the airport in Dorval, Quebec, I've never come across this species. So it was quite a surprise to look out the window and from about 0.5km away see a large white bird flying in summertime, meaning it wasn't a Snowy Owl.
