Lancaster - I had these rarities drop in very briefly with the huge flocks of Snow Geese (we have about 130,000 in the area).

Thanks to Birdviewing partner Lou, we managed 132 species on the trip, many of them photographed. A few got away, such as the painful Juniper Titmouse and the no-show Mountain Quail. We did manage some bluebird photos however these birds are quite skittish around vehicles and especially people. Quilomene Wildlife Area, Washington.

Ottawa - What's wrong with this picture? Those are two of four Hooded Merganser ducklings with some of the Wood Duck's 9 ducklings of her own. The odd thing is mother duck had all 13 with her and no sign of Hoodie, at least not right there. We thought of a couple of possibilities. She was playing babysitter while Hoodie went on her own for a swim or she was the mother of the four oddballs but did't lay the eggs. Both birds laid eggs in the same tree nest and the Wood Duck ended up brooding. Interesting regardless.

Leamington - This little guy was as close as it looks, almost inside my minimum focus. I did not go to it. I positioned myself in a likely spot and waited half an hour for it to return. It did and exceeded my expectations. I'll be checking to see where it was banded and the bird's age and sex. Many saw it over a two day period. The previous day it was at Point Pelee National Park.

UPDATE: The bird hatched in 2012 at Whitefish Point, Michigan and returned to begin breeding there in 2013. It was likely on its way back to the same area.

These Great Horned Owl chicks were a big attraction for people visiting Gibbons Park in London in spring 2013. Hopefully they were high enough in the tree and not disturbed too much by the crowds!

The 2013/14 winter has seen a huge invasion of Snowy Owls... too bad that the only one I could capture on a photo was looking the other way!! But what a great bird!
