On Sanibel Island, the JN Darling Nat. Wildlife Refuge takes up a sizable fraction of the island. The Ding Darling Drive is a great way to see shore birds. The merganser was in one of the larger lagoons.

A rare occasion where the Barred Owl appeared near the boardwalk of the Corkscrew Swamp. He was too close for my 400mm that I was shooting with. I had to switch to the 100-400mm.

The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is always a great place to visit. Most of the attention was to the watery swamp on one side of the boardwalk. Yet there was often activity behind us. This wren is a case in point.

Looking towards Arenal volcano in the mist and rain, we had our first view of this bird. Quite the pose on his part. Judging from the number of our sightings it seems fairly common.
