Oshawa - McLaughlin Bay Reserve. These birds have a bright breeding plumage compared with the grey appearance in the fall. A few Knots show up along the shores of the southern Great Lakes in spring but normally just one or two birds at a time. Seeing a flock in Ontario is rare.

BrianMorin: I have been hoping for a chance to capture this bird in spring plumage for years. In my region we very rarely find any that pass through in spring while in the fall a few juveniles do show up. This was out of my normal range but worth the trip. It is an attractive species, not only the bright colour but the beautiful upper feathering.

Ottawa - A great regional bird dropped in with a mixed flock of peeps. Being a juvenile it was quite accommodating of the attention it attracted.

BrianMorin: Agreed and a threatened species. Their numbers have declined significantly in the last 40 years.

Details: outside normal range, multiple species

Boundary Bay, Delta BC
Lucky to see this bird with partial breeding plumage. Most Red Knots we see lack the colour.

The other birds are Black-bellied Plovers.
