Conditions at their worst during this shot. However I was lucky to be up-wind when this flock landed nearby. I observed some habits of the Snow Bunting - always attempting to face the wind, and often looking downward even when not feeding. One of my favourite species...at Mirabel, Quebec

Ottawa - After careful review by a number of qualified observers this bird was considered to be a first year male. It is a great bird at any time here and even better on a snowy winter day.

St. Rose - This is the Prairie subspecies which migrates south and returns in late February as our first spring bird. Note the white area over the eye. So what is it doing here now? It must have missed the bus :) Large flocks of Horned Larks appeared in the area today, fresh arrivals from the north since yesterday.
