Wolfe Island (Kingston) - Notice the difference in appearance with the other bird I posted. I love the stern look. This bird was perched on a large bale close to the road offering a close but brief photo op.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - The face of this bird is unusual. It is almost clown-like. It coughed up a large pellet shortly after this photo was taken. Duck was on the menu.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - I went in search of this bird which showed up there last week. I was well rewarded for the lengthy drive. It was shadowed by a Dunlin and Sanderling for a couple of hours and all moved in a range of only about 30 feet. It was great. Presqu'ile is one of the best locations in Ontario to see this species in November and December. They may get as few as one bird or as many as dozens in a rare year.

Pakenham - (west of Ottawa) Not what we were expecting to find after the great views we had of the Mountain Bluebird. This bird likely came in on the same weather system from the U.S. Southwest at least 10 days ago. DNA sequencing of the captured bird (taken in January to save it from imminent death by freezing) suggests this is possibly a hybrid Bullock's x Baltimore Oriole.

Ottawa - last week's strong southwesterly winds blew Mountain Bluebirds into Ontario. Ottawa was one of the beneficiaries. Had a great time with this very cooperative bird.
