Brockville - There had been several reports of pelicans along the St. Lawrence River between the Quebec border and the 1000 Islands in recent weeks but most were one-day wonders. This bird stuck it out for over a week north of Brockville in a conservation area.

Kilmarnock - I returned to see this bird on a sunny day for a better show of colour. It sang its fluted song for a while but never moved to a more suitable low level perch. It hasn't yet given up hope that it will find a mate. Compared to its eastern cousin, this bird has brown feathering that is paler, with the yellow of the throat extending up to the beak.
