Kingston - this bird was really moving, creating a bow wave. Nice gel job on the head :)

Kingston - I don't often find an opportunity to capture this species out of water.

Kingston - Sentinel. She was scouting the very little open water along the ferry route for a duck meal. She almost took out a Red-breasted Merganser. Boy can these birds pour on the speed when they want to. She flew as fast as the duck but it had too much of a head start for her to catch it. A passerby asked if that was a falcon. I said no, a Snowy.

Alfred - Beautiful bird. It was having a hard time balancing on this weak branch.

Russell - It seems like everyone is finding opportunities to capture these great birds. This one was digging at the bottom of a tree then went inside a large hole at the base and could be heard inside the rotted out shell. I was only feet away. It didn't care. Had to back up to get some of the shots. Way too close.

A rare bird sighting at a children's playground and beach at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby. It was with about a hundred Ring-Billed and Glaucous-winged Gulls, but really stood out when it appeared. This was my first lifer of 2014.
