female, winter plummage, outside normal range
This red-crowned crane arrived in Taiwan just a week ago. After 3 trips, I finally took photos of this lost crane in Northern coast of Taiwan, at least 1000 kilometers away from their winter range. This is a second crane reside in Taiwan (other is a Siberian Crane). This crane takes roots in the water and sometimes fish, staying in the same general area for a week but also flying around after feeding.

A lifer that I saw for about 3 seconds and only got two shots away. This is the best of the two, the other shows the yellow on the forehead.

A first for the site as well.

I was very excited about this Wren perching on a dead log only meters away this morning. I have not seen a wren before. This little bird stayed for about 30 seconds for me to get many good photos.

Ingleside- One of the tougher songbirds to shoot. I worked with several before getting one at a reasonable distance staying still for more than 2 seconds. I think it was 2 1/2 :)

Ottawa - this bird has cooperated for observers for a couple of weeks. Most of the time it spends sitting on the water in the middle of the Ottawa River waiting to chase gulls. It lifts off occasionally, puts on a show in hot pursuit. For this shot it was soaring like a gull for about 90 seconds. Very nice of it.

One of the most majestic birds I've seen, this was the second African Crowned Eagle observed on our trip. Due to its preference for dense old forest, it is under serious threat due to deforestation. This species is known to take good sized monkeys as prey. This was taken at Kakamega, northwest of Nairobi.

The only place in Kenya that appears to have the habitat to support this woodpecker is Kakamega Rainforest. Unfortunately the photo conditions in the forest were tricky and this species was seen for just a few seconds.
