South Lancaster - If you spend enough time outdoors shooting you will occasionally come across exciting subjects. This was one of those and being lucky enough to capture it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The picture attracted significant attention on both the Weather Network and CBC radio. The Pileated, protecting its nest, had a brief altercation with the squirrel. Over in seconds, the squirrel and woodpecker parted with no further issue.

Cornwall - This second adult Thayer's Gull has less head marking than the other bird. Some Thayer's Gulls have dark eyes but others are light. Both of these birds had eye colour similar to Herring Gulls. CORRECTION: After careful consideration and review by an experienced gull watcher this may be a hybrid Thayer's Gull and Kumlien's Iceland Gull.

Reifel Bird Sanctuary, Delta BC.
My second Harris's Sparrow in two weeks. This one was more accommodating for photos. This is likely a different bird from the Iona one as it was seen initially at the same time as the other. These are rare on the coast, but strays are reported most winters.

This species is quite localized and it also took me quite a while to get the picture... it came every time to the same fruit but just for a split second! Interestingly, it was sucking from a little hole it made into the peel!
