Yellow-billed Oxpecker (3)Buphagus africanus Krish Uganda 📍 Map Date taken: Jul 19 2024 Date uploaded: Aug 16 2024 Views: 20 Comments (2): Krish: The yellow-billed oxpecker feeds on insects and ticks, earning its name from its behaviour of perching on large mammals and consuming parasitic arthropods. In a single day, it can remove over 100 ticks. While ticks are a significant part of its diet, the oxpecker prefers blood and will peck at wounds on mammals to feed directly. Despite this behaviour, mammals generally tolerate the presence of oxpeckers.Brian Morin: Good shot and neat story
Pileated Woodpecker (108)Dryocopus pileatus Brian Morin Canada (Ontario) 📍 Map Date taken: Aug 2 2024 Details: male, adult Algonquin Park - This bird was busy working a small stump only a metre from the ground. Date uploaded: Aug 16 2024 Views: 19 Comments (2): Chris: A great portrait. The lighting is exceptionalBrian Morin: This was luck on all counts. I had heard about this particular bird the day before but didn't know where it was until I tripped over it so to speak. The setting was better than I had imagined and the light was perfect. I actually had to back up to get the shot because I was too close.
