St. Rose - Went back to a favourite regional location today and was surprised to see a good number of Snowies. Most were still on the ground at a distance but a couple were closer to the road.

Kingston - Wolfe Island This bird called (a shriek) about a dozen times over a five minute period. It was not calling to me but possibly to a bird in the distance. Most of the time it was facing away as it called. It was the most I have heard any Snowy Owl call.

Kingston - Kestrels have to be one of the most difficult raptors to shoot. Their tolerance of approach is very low and since you need to get closer than with other raptors because of their small size, it makes it an even greater challenge (Sharp-shinned Hawks are fairly close in size but much easier to deal with). I moved up slowly with my car and managed to get a few shots that I cropped. Normally I quit before I even start – they are that difficult to deal with.

Erieau - I love the feet on this bird.

Ottawa often has an overwintering Harlequin, usually a female and occasionally a juvenile male. This one is a male. I went looking for this bird that has been seen in recent days.
