Ridgetown - Swans heading to water at sunset after spending the day in the fields. What a great sight and sound.

female, hybrid
Pakenham - (west of Ottawa) Not what we were expecting to find after the great views we had of the Mountain Bluebird. This bird likely came in on the same weather system from the U.S. Southwest at least 10 days ago. DNA sequencing of the captured bird (taken in January to save it from imminent death by freezing) suggests this is possibly a hybrid Bullock's x Baltimore Oriole.

Ottawa - last week's strong southwesterly winds blew Mountain Bluebirds into Ontario. Ottawa was one of the beneficiaries. Had a great time with this very cooperative bird.

Erieau - part of a major flight that saw dozens of birds along the lower Great Lakes, especially Lake Erie. I had 35 one day while another group recorded 55 the next day in the same area. They blew in with a very strong westerly wind that lasted a few days. Hundreds ended up along the New England Coast. The last major flight was in 1998, under similar conditions.

Oakville - one of two birds present at a sewage treatment plant for several days after a major flight into southern Ontario along lakes Erie and Ontario late last week. Very difficult to shoot in flight and they seldom landed and never close by.
