Birding since the late 1980s...mid 40s birder. Being out in nature and hearing the morning chorus, seeing how birds interact with their surroundings and go about their lives provides me a greater understanding of the natural environment we live in. With bird photography, every photo is different, which makes seeing the same and different species exciting.

Hunting in the early morning at Nanoli in the countryside east of Bombay. At first I thought it was a Sparrowhawk, but the light colour, lack of tail bands and minimal barring above the legs points to Shikra.

Seen in the old-growth forest of the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary outside near Kothamangalam, Kerala, India. This bird is slightly smaller than the Greater Flameback, and has a black neck.

To the surprise of the park guide, a Heart-spotted Woodpecker flew in while we were watching a Common Flameback. He hadn't seen this bird in awhile. Seen in the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary outside near Kothamangalam, Kerala, India.
