Long Sault - Quite a rarity locally. I checked records and it has likely been over 25 years since the last one was seen in the area.

Ottawa - this bird has been present for over a week and I had the chance to track it down today. We spotted it immediately as we pulled up to a small retention pond. You don't find too many rarities before you even get out of the car.

Ottawa - The short bill length might suggest a short-billed but males have a shorter bill than females. The length is even shorter than you might find on Short-bills which indicates why bill length is not a safe indicator for this species. This bird had been checked out by local experienced birders.
