They come down for a dust bath most evenings just before last light during this time of the year. The red-brown strip is an unpaved road used by the local villagers in their vehicles - which does not seem to bother them at all !

For a brief moment a Cassin's Sparrow came out of the field. Unfortunately I couldn't get any decent photos, however the dark "anchors" are visible on the upperparts, as well as the faint eye ring. La Joya, Texas.

St. Rose - I took advantage of morning sun looking for winter field birds. There were few but I did come across four Horned Larks. This Northern subspecies is with us throughout the winter and will leave in early March.
