Leamington – An exceptionally rare bird in the province with only a few prior records for this Southwestern U.S. species. Thankfully I was in the region at the time and saw the bird the day after many others had seen it. It was not found the following day so timing was perfect.

BrianMorin: This was an exceptionally difficult subject to shoot. The initial brief activity at dawn was in the open but after that it was always within a small woodlot in a park. Poor light and lots of leaves and branches meant I'll only have about 2-3% keepers but at least I have this to show for the effort.

Merlin - I spotted two pairs in this area. The males were singing. This Midwestern species irrupts into the region in small numbers to breed and it often occurs after our main songbird migration is over.

London - A long haul but this species has eluded me in Canada so I decided to make the run and was successful. Sightings in the East are rare but they occasionally show up in the Southwest.

BrianMorin: I have been hoping for a chance to capture this bird in spring plumage for years. In my region we very rarely find any that pass through in spring while in the fall a few juveniles do show up. This was out of my normal range but worth the trip. It is an attractive species, not only the bright colour but the beautiful upper feathering.

Point Pelee National Park - What a treat to have a chance to see this night bird at close range and only 18" off the ground.

Point Pelee National Park - One or two birds appear each spring around mid-May, sometimes hanging around for a couple of days before returning south. This is a second year bird showing adult features like whitish head and gray underparts but still having mottled underwing.
