BrianMorin: I got lucky with the location. It was moving along the shore and I was hoping it would end up in this spot for a clear shot and it worked out. I like the way the entire bird shows, including the feet.

Blenheim - An uncommon migrant. I sat on the grass and waited. After a short time the bird walked to within six feet. That's why shorebirds can be fun to work with if you play the waiting game rather than chasing, which seldom works.

BrianMorin: This was a lucky find because I was literally within 30 seconds of giving up on it. I had checked out three lagoons where two had been reported the day before and after a very careful search for 30 minutes I had come up empty. As I completed my search on the final section of the last lagoon, there it was, swimming about 20 metres offshore. I stayed with it for another 30 minutes as it swam to and fro, feeding on swarms of midges at water level. I would grab shots whenever it came close enough and once it was within a decent distance, about 8 metres. The light was good and the bird presented well. There was only one bird but that worked for me.

Cornwall - It took me 8 trips to this site 5 minutes from home before I had a chance to get a shot of a night-heron. Persistence paid off.

Ottawa - This is a very reliable bird. It stays in a very tight area and regularly fishes for frogs and minnows. Because of this it comes much lower in the trees than you'd otherwise see.

BrianMorin: I saw the owl a few hours earlier, further back and three times as high with a branch across its face. I returned, monitored it for 30 minutes when its started to come to life, preening then later flying to a much better perch for both of us (the bird and for me).
