Alfred - This is a nest site, part of a colony in a large pile of peat on a peat farm. I hope the young fledge before the hill is excavated.

male, adult
The bird was on territory and I was able to get it from my car. I thought I had some fairly good shots at Point Pelee but this turned out even better.

male, adult
Point Pelee National Park - The only reason I can say this was a male is because the female was on the nest nearby. We watched the bird doing its 'dance' as it probed the mud for worms. This shot is uncropped. The bird was very close to a trail and remained within seven metres two days straight. The food must have been good there but also he was not far from the nest to offer assistance if required.

adult, summer plummage, outside normal range
Erieau - The occasional individual deviates from its western flight path that would normally take it to South Dakota or even southern Alberta. I made two attempts at photographing this individual and on the second day it was much closer, offering excellent views. The breeding plumage is stunning, right down to the ruby-red eye. I've waited a long time for this bird.

Point Pelee National Park - This bird was ridiculously easy to photograph. It hung around a very small area and regularly grabbed onto the bark of tree trunks to pick off insects, much like a nuthatch.

Point Pelee National Park - This beauty was high on my target list for the trip. I was lucky to have it close by on a log.
