Ingleside - It has been a good year for dowitchers showing up in different places in Ontario but of course in low numbers. The Long-billed is less commonly found in the East.

Ottawa - This 'juvie' is putting its best foot forward as it probes for dinner. We are in that interim period in the annual cycle, the shorebird season, which bridges summer and fall. This is one of the most interesting and challenging periods of birding and is for me more fun and satisfying than dealing with those 'confusing fall warblers'. This is especially true for photographers because more often than not if you strategize you don't need to chase them, they will come to you.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - I had to make an extra effort for this bird. Side light was harsh on the beach in late afternoon so several of us rolled up our pants and went into the lake for shots with much better light. The water was only about 5" deep and the waves weren't too bad but the pants still got wet. They stayed that way the rest of the trip back (over three hours) but at least it was warm. :)
