Ingleside - It has been a good year for dowitchers showing up in different places in Ontario but of course in low numbers. The Long-billed is less commonly found in the East.

Ottawa - This 'juvie' is putting its best foot forward as it probes for dinner. We are in that interim period in the annual cycle, the shorebird season, which bridges summer and fall. This is one of the most interesting and challenging periods of birding and is for me more fun and satisfying than dealing with those 'confusing fall warblers'. This is especially true for photographers because more often than not if you strategize you don't need to chase them, they will come to you.

Osgoode - A flock of 108 birds were in a large field

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - a good bird for us in the East. We didn't know the bird had been sighted in the morning. Note the droop at the end of the longer bill (shorter in Semipalmated Sandpiper) and the bit of rusty on the scapulars. I didn't realize until two days later that the bird reported earlier in the day had different markings so a second bird.
