Ingleside - in the dying minutes of the day the bird was quite active. I have changed my strategy for shooting Snowy Owls. I no longer bother with morning shots and during the day they are on the ground, often well out in fields so inaccessible. I start looking by 2 p.m. on sunny days and 1:30 on cloudy days at this time of year. They are more alert from 3 on and active by 3:30. This can of course change from bird to bird.

Ingleside - possible juvenile male. This is an individual I've had my sights on for a couple of weeks now but without success. Tracked it down today.

female, adult
It is nice when the birds come to you. This female Cooper's Hawk made a meal of one of the Morning Doves that frequent my backyard.

adult, outside normal range
St. Isidore - I found this bird today feeding along a roadside near a forest with a flock of "regular" Juncos. This "Oregon" type individual is a western subspecies which is rare in the east. I hadn't seen one for decades. This is an adult male.

Ingleside - This near adult bird flew low to check me out before continuing on its patrol of the St. Lawrence. It's giving me the old 'eagle eye.' The bird was very close. This image is not cropped.
