Kingston - Wolfe Island; I waited a long time for this species. It does not show clearly but the cere on the bill is yellowish, rather than pale blue seen on young birds. However, it isn't very extensive so others are thinking this bird is a sub-adult but not a young bird.

Napanee - the repertoire of this bird was incredible. It did virtually perfect songs of Tufted Titmouse, Blue Jay (two different calls), Eastern Phoebe and the call of a Kingfisher in addition to its own call notes. There were others too but these were the best. Practise makes perfect they say. If you closed your eyes you could not distinguish the calls as not being the real thing. We found this bird while looking for a Tufted Titmouse that was calling. That was one big titmouse :)

In the middle of metropolitan shanghai, I took this very late of the day and from a great distance I knew this is a different magpie and turned out to be the Azure-winged Magpie. This species distributed either in the southwest corner of Europe and China: what a strange distribution. This bird should have blue back and head and white underside. I took at front view, so nothing to show it pretty light blue feathers.

This is one of endemic subspecies of Taiwan and considered as one of must species for bird photographer. I have seen this species many times but failed to have a nice shoot. Finally, I saw this particular male living near my apartment and I was pursuing this bird for a week. This morning was slightly rained but I was lucky to have a nice shot of this overall blue feather and beak but a black nap and a black line divided neck and chest. The lower underpart is grey/white color. It also makes loud and pretty sound.

This is a very large water bird and distributes widely in Asia and Europe, a counterpart of blue heron in North America. Always near the fresh water area, either river or lake. It looks blue when it took a flight, but it looks grey with black patches when it stands near the water, unlike blue heron with blue patch on the head and shoulder. The bill look more rosy-yellow on both beaks.

Pakenham - (west of Ottawa) Not what we were expecting to find after the great views we had of the Mountain Bluebird. This bird likely came in on the same weather system from the U.S. Southwest at least 10 days ago. DNA sequencing of the captured bird (taken in January to save it from imminent death by freezing) suggests this is possibly a hybrid Bullock's x Baltimore Oriole.

This widely distributed pacific reef heron or pacific reef egret, is mostly in the coast area. There are 2 forms, one is in dark colour and the other is white. I have seen only the dark form, black or blue-black. This one had also a white patch near the neck. Iris is usually yellow but this one is dark brown. Legs were short but much thicker than most heron/egret.
