Ingleside - This Tom turkey in all its spring colour spent time up close and personal with me. I was shooting spring birds, sitting on a camp stool when it came charging towards me. It moved right by me at 3 feet and began to feed on a few seeds I had sprinkled on the ground. After a few minutes I tossed out some more and it continued to feed, coming very close. At one point I thought I'd see if it was brave enough to take from my hand. It hesitated but did it, twice. That was quite an experience. Remember I was sitting at its level so I watched it 'like a hawk' at all times. I didn't bother it and he didn't threaten me. He eventually walked calmly away. The tough part for me was most of the time he was too close to shoot :)

Amherst Island - Kingston. This was luck. Watching a pair of Killdeer in their mating ritual is not something you can plan for. Before the male hopped onto her back he approached closely and she remained steady. I knew what was possible so I grabbed the camera and a few seconds later he was on top. The whole scene lasted about 10 seconds.

Kingston - This is perhaps the most common view of a Great Horned Owl for birders in eastern Canada, unless it is on its nest. The silhouette is unmistakable. In the West it seems to be more common to find them exposed in the daytime.

Wolfe Island- Kingston. Despite another snow dump today, winter is getting long in the tooth. A few Snowies are still present in the Kingston area. This attractive bird sat concealed on the ground until late in the day. I got a few pictures in low light with its eyes open, always a plus.
