Ottawa - I returned to the site below Parliament Hill to see if I could get a picture of this rare visitor on a sunny day. The weather cooperated and this time I was smart. I brought my zoom wide angle-short range telephoto for closeups as well as my longer lens. The bird did not disappoint. I had a ball with it for 45 minutes.

Ingleside - gathering nesting material– grasses and mud. Notice how the long tail is held up to avoid getting it muddy.

Ingleside - We've all seen heron shots before, even herons eating fish, but this was a first for me. As it stalked frogs and fish, the bird spotted movement along the shore. A few moments later it came up with a furry treat, a meadow vole. I'll bet it slides down easier than a sunfish.

Ottawa - when I was going through the rest of my images tonight I was pleasantly surprised when I came upon this photo. The water droplet had just fallen from the bird's beak and is reflected in the water below. The water was calm and the sky was colourless so the only hint of water at all is the bird's reflection

Ottawa - I managed to find the phalarope that has been a local regular in a small wet area of a field. The bird was very cooperative and permitted long views. There is plenty of food for it.
