In a single day, it can remove over 100 ticks. While ticks are a significant part of its diet, the oxpecker prefers blood and will peck at wounds on mammals to feed directly. I had heard about this particular bird the day before but didn't know where it was until I tripped over it so to speak. The setting was better than I had imagined and the light was perfect.
