adult, winter plummage
Long Sault Parkway - A local birder alerted me to this bird today. He thought it was a Red-necked but it has Red Phalarope features including overall whitish appearance with gray back and bill that is thicker at the base and paler than the rest of the bill. A rare regional find. Note the lobed toes. That's why phalaropes can swim unlike other shorebirds.

male, juvenile
Cornwall - It was a juvenile (yellow eye) and I determined it was a male based on smaller size and shorter tail but clearly a Cooper's and not a Sharpie with that rounded tail.

Ottawa-Shirley's Bay. Now that's something you don't see every day. The bird flipped this leech around for a couple of minutes trying to knock it out. It eventually swallowed it. Impressive.
