Aylmer - A rare flight of spoonbills brought birds to Ontario and Quebec. Ontario's first was in a conservation area being enjoyed by numerous birders, photographers and locals out for a walk. This was a real treat for us all. Most of the time it was at a distance but once it came within range.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - An uncommon migrant. There were three birds hanging around Gull Island for a few days. It meant heading out in chest waders – the water was up to waist deep for part of the walk over but worth the effort. The high wind that developed didn't help the trip back however. Last year at this time we could walk over in low boots or sandals.

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - This is a provincially endangered species with only a few breeding pairs. 2023 was a poor breeding year. This male was calling and flying about proclaiming territory. We were not near a nest. The pair did not nest this year but another pair did.

Oshawa - An uncommon to rare fall migrant, the bird was discovered on the back field of a high school yesterday. I beat everyone to school for the first day back and had the bird to myself for 30 minutes this morning. It was great. It showed virtually no fear but I didn't approach too closely anyway, giving it space to feed on insects and probe for worms. Several times it started to head my way so I'd back off.
