Aylmer - The aerobatic ability of this species is amazing to watch. It can turn on a dime by simply tilting its tail without adjusting its wings. It saw the Monarch but passed it by, either knowing instinctively that this was not desirable prey or it learned the hard way.

Sue Bishop: Unbelievable capture. They are so beautiful. We have seen them a lot in the tropics but usually flying high. Great one.
BrianMorin: I heard a similar comment from someone who has seen them in Florida but they were always distant. This bird obliged with close views a number of times .

Presqu'ile Provincial Park - I managed to get a few shots just as the sun was setting. This was offshore on Gull Island, a 100-metre walk in water up to knee deep.

Sue Bishop: Such a beautiful bird. We didn't brave the water and did not see many shorebirds on our recent trip to Presqu'ile. Well done!
BrianMorin: Even the immature birds are quite attractive. Presqu'ile is a great spot with such a variety of habitats that there is something for everyone. Access to the island is only possible from September 11 on following the end of the breeding season for colonial breeding birds.
