Alfred Bog - Two pairs were feeding and doing courtship calls. It was great to observe these large birds. They all had varying amounts of dried mud on their feathers which they toss on themselves in the spring, making it look like a plumage change.

BrianMorin: Isn't that a coincidence. This bird and its mate are at the Ottawa Airport, about 150 feet from a runway. The nest is in a tangle along a fence behind a secure side fence but only about 40 feet in so it will be easy to watch the birds coming and going later on. We had them on a mowed area close by, feeding and resting in a large tree. One of them came down to the ground about 20 feet away. The male does incredible mimics. Perfect House Sparrow, Robin, Crested Flycatcher, Starling, Killdeer, Kingfisher, Red-winged Blackbird alarm call and a number of others. They are indistinguishable from those birds.

Alfred - This shot fell into my lap. I stopped at a spot looking for a perch that a Bobolink might land on. I grabbed my camera to test the settings on the bush and as I raised it there was the bird I was hoping to find.

BrianMorin: I took quite a few photos of the birds going into a number of nest holes and remained inside my car for the shoot so I wouldn't disturb them. The results exceeded my expectations.

BrianMorin: Sometimes everything comes together. I saw this shot before it happened. I watched the bird moving about and hoped it would approach this tiny bit of water which had a great sky reflection. It did briefly and I made sure I took advantage of the opportunity. The low, tight vegetation that went right into the water made this look like a lush salad. It was a perfect setting.

Point Pelee National Park - The only reason I can say this was a male is because the female was on the nest nearby. We watched the bird doing its 'dance' as it probed the mud for worms. This shot is uncropped. The bird was very close to a trail and remained within seven metres two days straight. The food must have been good there but also he was not far from the nest to offer assistance if required.
