During the day, saw-whet owls hide in the trees and don't move. Getting out in the open during the day would mean lots of trouble for these birds! This one spent the winter at Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto.

Grebes (especially red-necked) are not seen very often on the Thames river in London, with the exception of the last very cold winter, where the only open water was close to the warm outflow of the water treatment plant in Greenway and Springbank Park. This bird is putting on its breeding plumage already!

On a cold winter like the last one it was not easy to find songbirds around... this one was in a flock just close to the Lake Erie shore!

The 2013/14 winter has seen a huge invasion of Snowy Owls... too bad that the only one I could capture on a photo was looking the other way!! But what a great bird!

This (probably) female was faking incubation to call my attention away from her already hatched chicks that were playing around on the beach!
