Sherbrooke - We spent the day with the bird and in this shot it had retrieved a cached vole from an 8 ft. high stump. We didn't know it was there. We were just shooting the bird when it retrieved it from below. Imagine the surprise.

Long Sault - Flocks of redpolls have been showing up along country roads in the last few weeks with birds actively feeding on weed seeds. Later in the winter, when snows cover more of their food, they should appear at feeders.

Ottawa - 'Oregon' subspecies was out of range. The bird showed up yesterday and we didn't know it was there when we visited a feeder at the Central Experimental Farm. Luck was in our favour.
