Napier - A light drizzle was falling but since I was shooting from the car it didn't matter. It is always nice to see this uncommon grassland species.

Near Whitby - This is the second record for Canada. The first was a bird in Toronto in late fall 1993. They are very rare in North America, with only six U.S. records of this South American species. It saved me a trip south :)

Pointe-Yamachiche - The bird was perched on a fallen tree at eye level, a rare view for this species. It was late in the afternoon so it was very alert but not yet hunting.

Ottawa - This 'juvie' is putting its best foot forward as it probes for dinner. We are in that interim period in the annual cycle, the shorebird season, which bridges summer and fall. This is one of the most interesting and challenging periods of birding and is for me more fun and satisfying than dealing with those 'confusing fall warblers'. This is especially true for photographers because more often than not if you strategize you don't need to chase them, they will come to you.
